The spring is the point
A cantilever frame flexes slightly as weight goes onto it, which takes the hardness out of sitting down and gives a small amount of movement during a long meeting. A rigid four leg chair gives you neither.
It is a small difference that becomes noticeable somewhere around the forty minute mark.
And the practical advantages
Nothing to catch a mop or vacuum on, because the frame meets the floor in two continuous runners rather than four points. Cleaners notice this, and so do the floors.
They also line up neatly against a wall, which matters in a reception where chairs are seen more than they are used.
Where four leg wins instead
Uneven floors, where a cantilever can rock. And rooms that need to clear, because most cantilever frames do not stack well. For that, stacking chairs are the right answer.
