Tables that survive the canteen
Tables for staff cafes, canteens and breakout areas, in standard and cafe heights. These get more abuse than any other furniture in an office: constant knocks, spills, and people leaning on the edge rather than sitting at it.
The base matters more than the top
A cafe table gets pushed, leaned on and caught by chairs all day. A base that is marginally too light will rock, and a rocking table in a canteen is the complaint that never goes away.
Disc and cross bases both work; the deciding factor is weight and floor contact rather than shape. Cross bases give more foot room, disc bases are easier to clean around.
Height, and matching the seating
Standard height takes ordinary chairs and suits eating. Cafe or poseur height takes stools and suits short stops and standing conversation. Getting this wrong is the most common ordering error here, and it cannot be fixed afterwards.

Cleaning is a specification, not an afterthought
Wipeable tops with sealed edges last. Anything with a seam that traps liquid will look tired within a year in a busy canteen.
